Schlitterbahn!

Robert was off from work for a couple of days before we headed up to Minnesota for David's wedding, so we decided to go to Schlitterbahn. We actually all had a great time. I was expecting to be really annoyed with the crowds and the lines, but surprisingly, it wasn't so bad. And there was actually a water ride that pushed our tube upwards-- which was surprising to me given the size of my butt!

The boys decided to cool off with an ICEE.
This ride was like surfing. I didn't try it, but it looked like a lot of water splashed directly in your face. Truett seemed to do the best. I think he would have been able to do it longer if only he weighed a little more.

Roller Skating

Mazzy and Gwen lined up to race.

This summer, the heat has been like an oven and most days have been over 100 degrees. SO, I decided we should go indoors--to some place cold--and we went roller skating. It was fun, and Owen was like a noodle basically running on the skates, and Truett spent more time on his butt than standing and skating. But after we got to do the hokey pokey and the limbo, who cares how many times we fell?

There was an option to rent this PVC pipe contraption, which resembled a walker, for the kids to use while getting the hang of it. I actually thought it looked quite geriatric, and JZ and I started calling these 2 little girls who lapped the place with their walkers "The Golden Girls". It was hysterical. Truett tried the walker for about 1/2 lap and then he was done with it.
The boys actually convinced me to get out and "race" in the 16 and older female division. I came in second (there were only 3 of us out there) and since I can't really stop myself on skates, I ended up crashing and burning to stop at the end of the race. But it was still a really fun time for everyone.

Truett Graduates Preschool

Creative Kids Preschool had a small graduation ceremony for those kids who will be moving on to kindergarten later this year. Since Truett's school is so close, we rode our bikes up to the ceremony. It was really cute. Each kid wore a red graduation hat and was asked a few questions. And Truett's answers were not too surprising.
What is your favorite color? "Black" (truett does think he is a ninja)
What is your favorite part of school? "Playing outside"
What do you want to be when you grow up? "Motorcycle Driver" (truett does want me to die of a heart attack)
Anyway- it was pretty cute watching all the 5 year olds not really understanding what their parents where making them do. But I am proud of the little man, and hopefully we won't end up in the principal's office on the 1st day of school! ;-)

School's Out for SUMMER!

2 mermaids and 1 lone merman

As summer is now here, we had to get out to JZ's lake house in Sandy Harbor for some fun in the water, sand and sun. The boys and I went out on Tuesday, and Robert joined us on Thursday. We also managed to have a farewell party for our friend Larry from Palau who is leaving St. David's to go work in San Antonio.

Of course we had to go the skate park in Marble Falls to get out of the water for a bit and spend some time on the concrete jungle. Truett just jumps right in with the older boys at the skate park, like he is a teenager or something.
We thought this was an actual turtle in the water until we were able to "catch" it and realized it was just a shell.

Owen's Tumbling Class

Owen had his last tumbling class and I tried to take a few pictures. (Truett is also in a kid's tumbling class, but I could not get any of those pictures to come out). Anyway, I think both boys really loved it-- we are just taking a break for the summer. But both have learned cartwheels, hand-stands, and flips (on the trampoline of course).

I am glad they have learned a little about stretching and being flexible because now that I am such an old lady, I want these boys to appreciate their flexibility while they have it! ;-)

Truett and Bella have a play date

Truett's BFF from preschool is a tiny girl named Bella. Truett invited her over for a playdate yesterday-- which ended up lasting for 4 hours. He was very sweet and planned a tea party for her. And said, "she drinks real tea mama, we have to make her real tea!" They went swimming, which was basically a show-off fest for Truett. Everything was "watch this Bella". I'm pretty sure I saw her rolling her eyes at some point-- but that could of just been me thinking out loud. But Truett did catch some sort of beetle and Bella looked at me and said, "I can not believe he just touches bugs." Must just be in our DNA that boys touch bugs and girls don't.

Truett even pulled out my old barbies for them to play with. Of course they played some make-believe about a Mom, Dad, and baby. It was all very cute to watch. I'm glad to see that Truett has this sensitive side!

Owen's 8th Birthday Party

Owen turned 8 years old and wanted to have his birthday party at the place where he takes gymnastics. There was zip-lining, foam pits, trampolines, rock walls, a bounce house, and everything else flip floping you can think of! The kids were totally sweaty when all was said and done. And the best part was that none of it was at my house, which of course means no clean up!

I asked the bakery to make cupcakes to look like a complete cake, and the cupcakes ended up with about 2 inches thick of frosting. Not that any of the kids complained about that!

Sea World-- On Owen's 8th Birthday

Believe or not... these 2 occasionally can be near each other without scratching each other's eyes out!

For Owen's 8th birthday, he played hookie from school and went to Sea World. Papa and Carolyn wanted to take him as his present. We all went and had a great time. Truett loved the beluga whale show, and Owen rode the "steel eel" which was a large steel roller coaster that dropped 16 stories. Truett rode the "journey to Atlantis" which was a large water ride that soaked everyone-- including those people standing by and watching. It wasn't very crowded, and it was overcast, so it was pretty much a perfect day to go there. And I suppose it was a little educational so it wasn't such a big deal that Owen missed school!

There is very large playscape with cargo nets and tubes for the kids to go thru. And I am very glad that we were there as a team because you could easily lose a kid in that maze!

The boys even got to feed some of the dolphins-- which is a new thing to me anyway. I don't remember getting to do that when I went to sea world as a kid. Of course it wasn't free (as nothing ever is at these places) but the boys liked it a lot. It really is incredible what these trainers do with these animals.

Here is a short video of the boys getting pounded by the splash of the water coaster.
