Diving Board Fun

So we went to a public pool in Austin-- near the professor's house-- in order to get in on some diving board action. Both boys LOVED it. Truett was a mad man, and would belly-flop over and over again. Owen tried to do a flip, but after a backward back-flop, he stuck to jumping and diving. We hung out with JZ, Mazzy, Gwen, Artie, and of course the professor too. It was fun-- up until I left the pool without Owen. (this is not a story I want to write down for eternal record). Anyway- all ended well and it was a great time.

These 2 mermaid obsessed girls played a game that was mostly kept a secret from the adults, but it involved being a mermaid, and Owen was a spaceman of some sort.

BOMBS AWAY!!!!

Check out the videos for some live diving action!

The last Airbender & other dress-up

This has been the week of make-believe and dress-up!!!

Truett had to dress up as a scuba diver. The costume is from 3 years ago when I made Owen a scuba diver costume to match up with Truett's shark costume. Anyway-- Truett kept sucking on the water bottle mouthpiece and trying to get me to "breathe the air" too. And just think-- this went on for hours.

A couple of weeks ago we went to see the movie "The last Airbender" (which was terrible) and of course the boys loved it. In the movie, there is a young boy-- who is bald-- and has a tattoo down his head where a mowhawk would be. So the boys wanted me to tattoo them like the boy in the movie. Truett actually asked me to cut his hair. And since THAT was out of the question-- both boys got headbands and washable paint tattoos. And so the airbender make believe went on for a couple of days-- but of course the tattoos didn't last that long.

I'm surprised no one ended up with a broken arm or bloody nose during this make believe karate chopping fight fest.
The boys really think they are masters of martial arts. Here is a video of them trying to "fight" each other. Note that Owen's pants are like knickers-- which is because the outfit is from his halloween costume from 2 years earlier. It just goes to show you that these boys grow up and not OUT!

Tie-Dye

We attempted to tie-dye t-shirts, and here is the end result. I think the boys liked it, but they did not like waiting over night to see the result. (Directions list you should let the dye set over night) Anyway- it wasn't too messy, and I think the t-shirts came out pretty cute.

Hurricane Alex Beach Trip

(pictured L-R: Luke, Truett, Denaee, Mazzy, Gwen, Artie, Owen, and Patton)

Well, our annual beach trip to Port Aransas turned out quite interesting this year because of a friendly little storm called Hurricane Alex. Although the actual hurricane hit 300 miles south of us in north Mexico-- we had plenty of wind, rain, and stormy surf to deal with. The road on the beach was gone-- which meant there would be no sand castles built. Owen loved boogie boarding on the waves, and Truett enjoyed "exploring" the sand dunes-- and probably didn't notice the weather was bad. My friend Lisa, her son Luke, and her nephew Patton left 2 days early because the stormy weather-- but JZ and her crew stuck it out with us, and it actually turned out to be a good trip. My niece Denaee stayed with us for our time there, and it was nice to hang out with her.

Good Buddies from the deck of the beach house.

Here are a couple of short movies with Owen and Truett enjoying the waves.
